For a week they were in Sardinia to learn about the Sardinian agricultural sector . A real exchange of ideas and considerations between farmers from Latvia and Sardinia during a visit organized by Welcome to Sardinia DMC which had as “guide” Roberto Meloni, a Sardinian who has been in Latvia for over twenty years, who is considered a true star of the show with TV programs and participation in important music festivals , including the famous Eurovision.
Thanks to the funds made available by the European Community, it was possible to show the twenty-two guests from Latvia the splendid reality of the Sardinian agricultural sector , by organizing meetings and tastings.
Organized visits to various cereal growing companies, dairy factories but also livestock and beekeeping companies in the municipalities of Ardara, Mandas, Donori and Dolianova. A visit that began in northern Sardinia, in the municipality of Ardara which also hosted the Cantine "Centinas de Su Regnu" festival and which continued in Mandas in small local wine and cheese companies and with a special typical Sardinian lunch with the ever-present suckling pig in the Vigne Ducali farmhouse.
An exchange of knowledge regarding tools and methods of cultivation and production, which was able to highlight once again how the land is the true beating heart of Sardinia and also of Latvia.
The collaboration of the mayors Francesco Dui (Ardara) and Umberto Oppus (Mandas) was fundamental, as they made themselves available to confirm and organize the visits in the best way. The next group from Latvia, always coordinated by Welcome to Sardinia DMC, is scheduled for mid-May. Other operators will come to visit Sardinia, always with the aim of knowing the Sardinian agri-food reality and being able to discuss common themes of great general interest.
