Sardinian lagoon fishing is exhausted and today it took to the streets. Cooperatives and associations organized a sit-in in Viale Trento in Cagliari, under the Region, to denounce a crisis that is now unsustainable. The lack of maintenance of the lagoons, obsolete regulations and the damage caused by wild fauna are putting at risk a thousand workers and an economy that relies on 10,000 hectares of fish farms.

Behind the mobilization are the main organizations in the sector: AGCI Agrital Sardegna, Legacoop Sardegna Settore Pesca, Confcooperative FedAgriPesca Sardegna and the Associazione Armatori Sardegna. «The problems are many and urgent: the canals are suffocated by the silting up and proliferation of invasive species such as the blue crab, while the interventions planned by the 6 million allocated in 2021 have never started» , denounce the organizers.

Cormorants also damage production without regulations offering adequate solutions for monitoring and compensation. Added to this are the restrictions on eel fishing, with limits on gear and no support for businesses .

The President of the Region, Alessandra Todde, after a meeting with representatives of the sector, promised the establishment of a technical table to address the critical issues . "We need concrete interventions, we can no longer wait", ask the fishermen united to save the lagoons and the businesses that depend on them.
