"It is necessary to guarantee safety in the workplace ." This was stated by the governor of the Region of Sardinia Christian Solinas , who together with the regional councilor for work Alessandra Zedda announced the allocation of one million euros for policies to combat the exploitation of workers in 'Island.
" May First - says Solinas - may be a reason for reflection and an opportunity for everyone to keep in mind the founding principles written in the Constitution and to highlight the value of work and the right for every citizen to carry out an activity in freedom, dignity and above all in safety . My thoughts go, in particular, to those who do not have work or have lost it. I address a thought to all those who today are waiting to find a job , renewing my commitment and that of the council to continue to find any useful solution so that the right to work and equal job opportunities are guaranteed ".
"The human cost of the lack of security in the workplace - adds the governor - is enormous and places us in front of the urgency to act united with determination, firmness and will to prevent tragedies such as those of recent days from happening again".
"This year, after two years, we will finally be able to take to the streets, together with all the male and female workers, to reaffirm the values and principles of the May Day festival - underlines Zedda - On this occasion, where the value is remembered central to work as a pivotal element of our identity and dignity, a special thought goes to all those workers whose dignity has been stripped, confirming the need to always keep our guard on the subject of legality and safety in the workplace ".
Zedda also highlights "the relevance of the projects and active policies that have been implemented on this front by the Region to promote and affirm a culture of legal, fair and inclusive work for all Sardinian citizens".
As regards intervention policies, the Ministry of Labor has just financed the Region a project that will start in September, lasting 24 months (1 million euros), which concerns all economic sectors, aimed at contrasting all forms of labor exploitation.
On the day of May 1st, on the other hand, the Region, as part of the EPIC European project , with the slogan "The exploitation of work cancels the dignity of the person", will propose a series of initiatives aimed at involving citizens also and above all through contribution of the volunteers of the Civil Service of the Acl i, who will deliver the material produced by the Region for the anniversary of May 1st in the cities of Cagliari, Sassari, Iglesias, Pula and San Giovanni Suergiu . Volunteers who will wear the logged-in t-shirts by touring the key points of the cities and delivering postcards / bookmarks in exchange for a photo, using the frame created ad hoc for the event. "We firmly believe in an inclusive society, in which, with everyone's effort, it is possible to enhance the contribution that all women and men without distinction of nationality know and can give, both in life and in the world of work", concluded Zedda.
