A special evening to discover one of the most beautiful and history-rich places in the city of Cagliari through a tasting dinner.
Pink: the color of flamingos, of the shades of summer sunsets, of elegance, of lightness and of the most fashionable wine of the moment, the still rosé. And pink is the theme of the dinner event which will be held on Wednesday 3 July in the elegant estate of the Convento San Giuseppe in via Paracelso in Cagliari.
“La vie en Rose at the Convent: a midsummer night's dreams” is, not surprisingly, the title of the evening, which includes a five-course tasting dinner preceded by a selection of finger food appetizers paired with So Chic! wine, Cannonau di Capo Ferrato Doc still rosé, produced in the hills between Castiadas and Villasimius.
Weaving the plot of the evening are two splendid stories of life, entrepreneurship and family. The first will be told by Luisa Carcangiu Bayre, landlady of the San Giuseppe Convent and wife of Paolo Bayre, descendant of the family that purchased these lands way back in 1869.
36 years ago the recovery of a structure characterized by a thousand-year history began. A recovery that was above all defense: defense of the history, archaeological heritage and function of an area passed through monastic and peasant traditions.
“We are still countryside today” proudly states Luisa Carcangiu Bayre who claims the definition of “Living Monument” and the adjective “authentic” for the San Giuseppe Convent. “But the real monument is the people who work there and those who have built memories of their family at the Convent” specifies Mrs. Luisa. In ancient times it was the house of water. The Molentargius park crossed the countryside and influenced these places with its saline, extreme and difficult environment.
Despite this, the lands were already inhabited by the first monks, who controlled the salt trade and took away space from the wetlands to create a flourishing agricultural activity. And it was precisely the care of the fields and the attention to the harvest and seasonality that united the centuries until today, when the Convent of San Giuseppe makes its long and rich history and experience available to host the moments most important in people's lives: weddings, baptisms, corporate events, anniversaries, romantic dinners.
The other story of the evening begins in France, Brittany to be precise, continues in Paris and sublimates in what the protagonists themselves have nicknamed "Sardinian Paradise". Jean-Paul and Isabelle Tréguer are a French couple who five years ago decided to move to live on the island, in the splendid Villasimius.
In front of the Sarrabus sea, life flows sweetly, sweet like So Chic!, the wine they decided to produce, making the most of all the best this land had to offer. Jean-Paul, a very successful French advertiser (owner of one of the most important advertising agencies in France for 20 years), together with his wife Isabelle decided to produce only one type of wine: still Rosé, the same one that has made the region rich of Provence.
Even the grape variety chosen is a close relative of the French one: Cannonau, cousin of Grenache from which millions of bottles are produced every year. Jean-Paul and Isabelle's wine is produced entirely in Sardinia with the collaboration of many Sardinians, from the winemaker to the winemakers. It's called So Chic!, a modern and international name created not by chance to compete in the markets where still rosé wine is most loved and drunk: Northern Europe, France, the United States, Australia.
Combining these two stories with a touch of taste will be the "pink" menu of the tasting dinner curated by the staff of the Convento San Giuseppe. After the standing aperitif consisting of prawn tartare with burrata foam, grilled scallops with carrot and ginger cream and sa Merca with cold So Chic! sauce, we will move to the table. In the rooms of the Convent they will be served: tuna tataki with avocado, beef carpaccio in sweet and sour onion jelly sauce and hazelnuts, pink rice with shellfish and Sardinian trifle. So Chic wine! it will be served throughout the evening, demonstrating the great versatility of this product, suitable for accompanying the entire meal from appetizer to dessert.
