Five liver harvests and six transplants . These are the numbers of operations in the first two weeks of June by the team of the complex hepatobiliopancreatic structure and liver and pancreas transplants, directed by Fausto Zamboni, at Brotzu . Added to these are six kidney harvests and two transplants which were performed by specialists of the complex Urology, Robotic Surgery and Kidney Transplant Structure directed by Andrea Solinas. New hopes of life, therefore, for twelve Brotzu patients .
«Exciting results - underlines the general director of Arnas G. Brotzu, Agnese Foddis - achieved thanks to two very important factors: the great commitment of the medical and nursing staff and, in particular, the great sense of altruism demonstrated by the organ donors , which allowed recipients an expectation and quality of life that would otherwise be unthinkable for transplant patients."
Results achieved - the company recalls - also thanks to the staff of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Structure directed by Maria Emilia Marcello, who in the last few days carried out four consecutive tests, essential to be able to proceed with the removal of organs from donors.
At the basis of this evident impulse to the activity of organ collection and transplantation - we read in a note - is undoubtedly the reorganization decided by Arnas G. Brotzu , which with the application of the company act has ensured that all 24-hour emergency surgical pathologies are the responsibility of the General and Emergency Surgery Complex Structure, thus lightening the severe workload that was shared with the Hepatobiliopancreatic Surgery for liver and pancreas transplants.
