Expected to premiere at the Venice Film Festival and ready to debut on October 2, “Joker: Folie à Deux” gradually discovers new details and background , showing the actors' latest statements and previews extrapolated from the set of a project with ambitions far superior to its predecessor.

Starring the ever-present Joaquin Phoenix as the crazy criminal clown and for the first time Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, the latest issue of "Empire" magazine shows a handful of new images taken directly from the film , anticipating some details on the plot and the close relationship between the two characters.

From the photo which portrays a scene set in court, it can be assumed that Arthur Fleck - Joker's real name - will have to answer for the killing of Murray Franklin , in addition to the responsibilities for having caused the riots in Gotham and the consequent death of the spouses Thomas and Martha Wayne. Another image reveals what appears to be an attempt to escape from Arkham prison , we will see in this regard how Brendan Gleeson's character, responsible for maintaining order within the structure, will respond.

Born with the desire to carry forward the developments of the first title but in a totally renewed guise, "Joker, Folie à Deux" once again sees Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips working together to give shape to a complex and nuanced character . As revealed by the director himself: «Joaquin and I always talked about another film while we were shooting the first one, just because we love the character. We were obsessed with Arthur. We almost joked: oh, we should take Arthur and do this! To this, the star who won an Oscar for his role as Joker added: «I was curious to delve deeper into the character. I felt like you could put him in any situation and I would be interested to see how he would deal with it. I created posters of already made movies, like Rosemary's Baby and The Godfather, put Joker in them and gave them to Todd. I always joked by suggesting he do a Joker in space. I was too fascinated by the thought of where it would end up."

The chemistry between the two protagonists has also been discussed at length. Also exclusively for Empire magazine, Phoenix gave an interview in which he revealed Lady Gaga's reaction after hearing him sing for the first time on set. From what transpires, her colleague's impression seems to have been enormously positive: «I seem to remember that her coffee went wrong the first time I sang, so it was a good feeling, it was exciting and it made me feel confident."

Then recalling the advice he received during filming, he added: «(He told me) follow what you feel, it's okay. For someone who isn't a performer in that sense, it can be... uncomfortable to do, but also very thrilling."

Like her partner, the actress and music diva also had to do specific work for her character. Trying to free herself from the image of a pop star, even going so far as to play off-key notes, Lady Gaga revealed to Empire some phases of the process that gave life to Lee/Harley Quinn: «There are a lot of off-key notes in Lee's role. I'm a professional singer, right? So even my breathing was different when I sang the role of Lee. When I breathe to sing on stage I have this very controlled way to make sure I'm in tune and that it's sustained at the right pace and timing. But Lee could never know how to do all this. I'm playing a character, so I worked a lot on the way I sang to make the voice come from Lee and not from me as the performer. It was different to anything I've ever done before, the musical numbers are an extension of the dialogue and not the start of a song for no apparent reason."
