Joao Pedro's return to Italy was not forthcoming. The agreement between the Italian-Brazilian striker and the Tuscan club fell through just when everything seemed done.

Bringing the former Cagliari striker to Tuscany was, explained Pisa CEO Giovanni Corrado , "a creative idea, given that the player was putting up significant numbers in Mexico, not only in terms of goals but also in terms of appearances." Then," the CEO continued , "we reached an agreement with Atletico San Luis, granting permission for a medical, but the player changed his mind at check-in . In a situation like this, sometimes, especially with such mature players, you expect greater awareness of the decisions they make . Joao Pedro had already spoken to the manager and the players, but when we realized there were doubts, we let it go."

The deal fell through, then. For his part, Joao clarified this in a post on his social media channels: "There's been a lot of talk about my future in the last few days. I want to sincerely thank Pisa and everyone involved in the negotiations for their professionalism and respect. Right now, though, I'm happy here, and it's a wonderful feeling. My mind is here, and it's here to stay."
