Change at the top of Twitter.

Jack Dorsey leaves the leadership of Big Tech with immediate effect: the new CEO of the company is Parag Agrawal, chief technology officer since 2017.

The news sent Twitter shares soar, which gained more than 10% on Wall Street.

"I decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move forward with respect to its founders," said the social media co-founder in 2006.

In 2008 he was forced to leave by one of the most important members of the board of directors, Fred Wilson, but Dorsey regained command of his creation in 2015.

Over the years, Twitter has transformed, among other things abandoning its 140-character trait, and its titles have risen by 85%. Also contributing to the popularity of the social network was the great use made of it by former US President Donald Trump.

The former CEO decided to ban the platform from the New York tycoon but he also assumed part of the responsibility for the online organization before Congress, which then resulted in the attack on Congress on January 6.

In his career Dorsey also founded Square, of which he is also the CEO. It owes most of its wealth to the electronic payment platform (worth a total of $ 12.3 billion). Twitter shareholder Elliott Management attempted to remove it last year by pointing the finger at the inability to run two publicly traded companies. At the end of a fight, an agreement was reached, according to which he could only stay as long as he hit difficult performance targets.

Dorsey said he will also step down from Twitter's board of directors - headed by Bret Taylor, the chief operating officer of Salesforce.com - when his term expires in 2022 to give Agrawal a chance to establish itself as a leader without interference. or pressure from the founder.
