The clash between the League and Forza Italia on the ius scholae is increasingly head-on. Now it is the League that is raising its voice and threatening the Azzurri, even bringing up the stability of the executive: "Tajani's insistence is not that it bothers the League so much, which has its own clear position and reiterates its no, but since it offers a platform to the opposition , it risks seriously undermining the stability of the government ", said the League group leader in the Senate Massimiliano Romeo, responding to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani.
The leader of Forza Italia , guest at the meeting of Communion and Liberation, had in fact held the point on the need to reason on the Ius Scholae with these words: « I do not impose anything on anyone, but I do not want anyone to impose anything on me either, so I am free to speak ». In the evening Romeo drove home the blow by making it clear what the situation is in the majority: « What are they doing? They present a bill to Parliament and approve it with the votes of the left? What could happen? Honestly, we find this insistence a bit curious. Insisting in this direction I do not know where it could lead », he attacked.
The Meeting thus becomes the ring where Forza Italia and the League fight this August battle: Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani, in fact, 24 hours apart, take the embrace of the CL people and end up at the center of photo-stars (the first yesterday on a Confagricoltura tractor; the second with a black baby in his arms, who the Farnesina helped with the adoption) and do not stop challenging each other. Just arrived from his friends of Communion and Liberation and already pressed by reporters, the Forza Italia leader also claims here the freedom to discuss a citizenship reform. The League is warned. But Salvini's party does not accept this and goes on the counterattack. And not only with Romeo. In the afternoon he relaunches on social media a video of Silvio Berlusconi who, as a guest of Fabio Fazio, said no to the ius soli and in part to the ius scholae, for fear of invasions of migrants in Italy . Up to the Lega Nord's comment: "Listen to the unequivocal words of the great Silvio". A move that displaces FI.
Many in the pavilions of the Meeting do not hesitate to define it as a low and excessive blow. So much so that Tajani responds dryly: « I believe I know Berlusconi's thinking well and I do not believe that Berlusconi should be used to create political polemics ». And dusting off the past, 15 years later the yes to Gianfranco Fini's ius scholae is also back. « On citizenship I have not changed my mind and I confirm everything I said then », assures the former president of the Chamber who in 2009 was a combative spokesperson for a law for the new Italians.
These are the words of Tajani, who in Rimini sought support in CL: " Being Italian, being European, and being a patriot is not tied to seven generations, but to what you are ", he emphasizes. And he insists on education, identity and culture, because if "you accept being European in substance, you are Italian and European" , is his axiom. "I prefer the one who has foreign parents and sings Mameli's anthem to the Italian for seven generations who hasn't sung it". The applause from the audience is not lacking and the objective of distinguishing itself - as a moderate and Catholic force - from the sovereignist and anti-migrant right seems to have been achieved.
FdI cautiously observes this new clash in the majority. Apart from reeling off the no to ius scholae because it is not in the government program or recalling that today "the rights of minors are absolutely guaranteed".
