The tense atmosphere following Saturday's clashes during the protest against the high cost of living continues. Hundreds of young people, divided into small groups of 10 or 20, mostly dressed in black and some with their faces covered, gathered in Piazza Duomo and spread out through the city center streets. Fifty of them have already been detained for identification and taken to the police station.
Some threw tables and chairs through the window of the Footlocker store on Via Torino. Others threw trash cans into the middle of the street.
The protesters then smashed the windows of a Carrefour and entered to loot it. They left with bottles of alcohol, throwing food into the street. The same thing happened at the Decathlon in Piazza Cairoli. Via Torino, Via Dante, and Via Orefici are a "graveyard" of trash cans, scooters, mopeds, and bicycles. The outdoor areas of the restaurants were also damaged, with tables and umbrellas destroyed.
Several police cars and riot police officers lined the square, where rocks and firecrackers were thrown . Police responded with water cannons and tear gas at this point in the Duomo area as well.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called a meeting for tomorrow
