A new decree on occupational health and safety is expected shortly, with the aim of strengthening accident prevention tools, improving the effectiveness of inspections, enhancing worker training, and promoting a broader culture of safety in the workplace.
The measure is currently being finalized by the Ministry of Labor, led by Marina Calderone, and discussions with the social partners—unions and businesses—are ongoing.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the approval of the decree would be relatively short.
Among the planned innovations is the use of existing databases, such as the Siisl (Information System for Social and Work Inclusion), to cross-reference information and make inspection bodies' controls more efficient.
The intervention comes at a time when the topic of workplace safety has returned to the forefront of public debate, especially in light of the numerous accidents—some of them fatal—recorded in recent months in various production sectors.
The decree should introduce operational and regulatory measures to strengthen the existing system, focusing on greater synergy between institutions and an increase in training tools available to workers and companies.
