A 51-year-old man of Albanian origin was found dead last night at a construction site on Via Goito in Padua, where renovation work was underway on a building. The man, the owner of a Vicenza-based bricklaying company, reportedly fell into an elevator shaft and died as a result.

The body was discovered by patrol cars from the Padua Police Headquarters, who entered the building last night after the alarm was raised by his family. The man hadn't been heard from since early afternoon, and his van had been parked not far from the building with the trunk still open.

Once inside, the officers rang the 51-year-old's cell phone, reaching the elevator shaft and finding the man lifeless. Emergency medical services and firefighters, along with officers from the Padua Flying Squad and the forensic police, responded to the scene. Investigations to determine the cause of the accident are still ongoing.
