A woman of approximately 58 years old, Lorella Capano, was found dead last night in a home on Via Hope in Sanremo . Her body bore evident signs of violence on her neck and wrists; investigators believe she was strangled .

The belief is therefore that it was murder.

The woman's body was discovered around 10:00 PM, when firefighters responded to the victim's 20-year-old son's request, who had reported being unable to enter the home. The apartment door was locked from the inside, and firefighters entered through a balcony, then unlocked the door from the inside.

According to an initial forensic investigation, death occurred at least three hours before the discovery . The son told investigators that he left home around 7:15 PM to get pizza. His father, expected in Sanremo, was in Milan for work.

Investigators' suspicions are focusing on the victim's son, Filippo, who was taken to the police station where he has been held for several hours .

The family, from Milan, returned to the Riviera for short holidays in their home: "Very normal, they always came in July."
