Garrison today in Milan under the motto "Without chains" called for the case of Ilaria Salis in Piazza dei Mercanti by the Sentinelli.

Various associations have joined the initiative to not turn off the lights on the case of the 39-year-old of Sardinian origin who has been in prison in Budapest for almost a year, including Amnesty International, Anpi, Agedo, Antigone, Enzo Tortora.

«We are faced with a distortion of the law, with horrifying scenes. And we cannot tolerate Europe being the place where things of this type happen", commented Pierfrancesco Majorino, group leader in the Lombardy Region, underlining that "I believe that we must all be mobilized on this. Salis' ideas are not the subject of initiatives like this. The point is that we cannot tolerate chains." According to Majorino, "the problem here is not being right or left - he added -. It's not clear why the government is so hesitant."

The Milanese demonstration takes place in conjunction with the "Day of Honour", the neo-Nazi procession that takes place every year in Budapest and during which, in 2023, Ilaria Salis was arrested. Roberto Salis, the 39-year-old's father, commented on the images arriving from Hungary: "They speak for themselves and confirm the family's fears about following the advice we receive from the Italian authorities." In fact, images arrive depicting the hanged woman which appeared in Budapest in conjunction with the neo-fascist celebrations and Roberto Salis also refers to fears for safety in the event of house arrest in Hungary.

In Rome, however, there were clashes between protesters and law enforcement at the procession for Ilaria Salis. About 100 people, including students and anarchists, were blocked by the police after trying to reach the Hungarian Embassy. After moments of tension, smoke bombs and chants against the police, clashes occurred.

Another protest took place in Gualdo Tadino (Perugia) for both Ilaria and Julian Assange, both of whom were asked to be released again. Mayor Massimiliano Presciutti also participated in the initiative, promoted by Articolo 21 Umbria.
