The second-degree sentence for the brothers Marco and Gabriele Bianchi accused of the murder of Willy Monteiro Duarte , killed with kicks and punches in a square in Colleferro in September 2020, drops to 24 years .

The two in the first degree had been sentenced to life imprisonment, generic extenuating circumstances now recognised . The other sentences confirmed: 21 years for Mario Pincarelli and 23 years for Francesco Belleggia.

«More or less I expected it», the words of Lucia Monteiro Duarte, mother of Willy. "No sentence will give me my son anymore," he added. " Do I feel I've received justice?" I accept the justice that has been done. Forgiveness is another thing . I don't feel anger, I don't know if it's a right or wrong sentence."

THE DEFENSE – «We are not convinced by the legal classification given to the facts which, in our opinion, should be classified as unintentional homicide , there were all the elements to consider it configurable. Now we have to wait for the reasons to be filed to understand how they explain this decision. We will go to the Supreme Court also because the fact is the same and identical for everyone and instead there is still a difference in the disciplinary treatment for all the defendants ». This is what Ippolita Naso affirms, who together with Valerio Spigarelli defends Gabriele Bianchi. «We believe that this decision is wrong, recognizing voluntary homicide and not declassifying. We think there are also many other issues that the Cassation will be able to evaluate. For now, what has happened is a reduction of the sentence, but that's not what we asked for. We asked for the correct framing of the facts». «The appeal to the Supreme Court is taken for granted», adds Spigarelli.

THE FACTS – It was 6 September 2020 when Willy, a 21-year-old chef, intervened to defend a friend who had been targeted by some young people already known to the police. The brothers Gabriele and Marco Bianchi, Mario Pincarelli and Francesco Belleggia then attacked the 21-year-old, brutally beating him, until he took his life.

A story that shocked public opinion also due to the boy's young age, according to those who knew him honest, "clean" and altruistic.

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella awarded him the Gold Medal for civil value in memory.
