Volleyball player found dead in pool, her brothers ask: "Just her swimsuit and shoes. Where are her clothes?"
Mystery surrounding the 20-year-old woman who died during a private party: no one noticed that the girl was no longer moving in the water. There are currently no suspects in the death of Simona Cinà, the 20-year-old volleyball player who died in a swimming pool during a graduation party in Bagheria, in the province of Palermo. The villa, rented for the party, has not been seized, and during their inspection, Carabinieri found several bottles of alcohol. Around 4:00 a.m. when the tragedy occurred, many of the partygoers had left, and the party organizers had already begun cleaning up.
The girl was swimming in the pool when, according to one of the theories being considered by investigators, she may have been taken ill. However, in this case, it remains unclear why no one noticed that the girl was no longer moving in the pool. Tomorrow, the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office, which is coordinating the Carabinieri investigation, will assign an autopsy to the forensic medicine department of the Policlinico Hospital. This will be a crucial test to clarify what happened to the young woman.
"It's a possibility, we've thought about it..." Gabriele Cinà, the victim's older brother, responded to reporters' speculation that drugs were circulating at the party. However, he and his sister Roberta, Simona Cinà's twin, clarified that even if drugs had been present, "she would never have taken them because, as an athlete, she was constantly tested; she was as fit as a fiddle." "We don't want to pin our hopes on anyone," Simona's brothers clarified. "We don't want to say anything hasty, but something is definitely wrong. We knew Simona, and she wasn't the type to drown in a pool. She surfed, she did so many things, so many water sports, that it's impossible she couldn't handle a deep-water situation. She was always tested because she competed in championships where tests were required anyway."
Wearing a denim skirt and a green shirt, a plastic cup in her hand, loud music, a group dance, and lots of laughter. This is Cinà in one of the videos posted by friends who were at the graduation party where the twenty-year-old lost her life. In another video, the girl is in a room with two friends singing, dancing, and laughing while a cell phone records them.
"When we arrived at the villa," the two brothers reconstruct, " they told us it was probably due to someone taking a sudden illness, which they didn't know about; they'd found her in the pool. We arrived and there was nothing there, everything was clean. No alcohol around, nothing. A party with lots of people, and there was nothing that could have been considered a party. The last time her friend saw Simona, she was dancing calmly near the DJ booth; she didn't seem drunk. We don't know what happened, but something is strange. " The two brothers state that "they didn't find Simona's clothes; she was just wearing her swimsuit and shoes."
"There are some elements that don't convince us," adds lawyer Gabriele Giambrone, who is representing Simona Cinà's family. "We will certainly have some more information after the autopsy, which is expected to take place tomorrow. It will also help us understand the cause of death and whether drugs and alcohol were present."
