"I hope he stays in jail." These are the words, reported by La Stampa, of the 60-year-old daughter who was attacked in Verbania yesterday by her ex-partner, a former pizza chef of Sardinian origin , her peer, who tried to disfigure her by pouring hydrochloric acid on her.

The attack took place in the salon where the 60-year-old works. According to the reconstruction of the facts, the man first attacked the victim with a razor, then dragged her into the bathroom of the shop and tried to pour two bottles of acid, which he had obtained shortly before, on her face . According to what was reported by witnesses present at the scene, the former pizza chef intended to pour the corrosive substance in her eyes, to deprive her of her sight.

The 60-year-old was saved by the customers of a bar next to the salon , who managed to separate the two before the worst happened, risking being hit with acid themselves.

The officers of the Verbania police station then intervened on site and arrested the attacker, who lives in a municipality in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and who does not appear to have a criminal record.

The 60-year-old is in prison in Verbania awaiting validation . The woman, who was treated at the emergency room of the Castelli hospital and who suffered injuries that were deemed to heal in about ten days , explained to investigators that she had received threats from her ex in the recent past : after the end of their relationship, the man had told her that he would use acid to disfigure her, but she had decided not to report him believing that he would not follow through on his words.
