During the Constituent Assembly of Futuro Nazionale, Roberto Vannacci chose to play Lucio Dalla's "Futura," citing it as the movement's song. "These futurist avant-gardes will be characterized by this beautiful song," Vannacci said. A choice the Dalla family didn't like.
"We weren't asked for any authorization, and while a political party's use of Dalla's songs is always an inappropriate one, it's even more unfortunate when it comes from someone so distant from Lucio's world and thought," Dea Melotti, cousin of the Bolognese artist and vice president of the Lucio Dalla Foundation, commented to the online edition of Repubblica Bologna.
In "Futura," written in Berlin in 1979, Dalla imagined the story of two lovers against the backdrop of the Berlin Wall. "We were shocked and amazed. To protect Lucio's images and art, we never allowed Dalla's work to be used in a political context, regardless of party," added Daniele Caracchi of the Dalla Foundation and Pressing Line, the artist's historic record label, speaking to Repubblica Bologna. "Dalla is beyond any partisan reasoning, whatever it may be; I believe this is the first time this type of use has occurred, and we will try to clarify the situation."
