The entrepreneur and former journalist-editor Valter Lavitola was arrested and taken to prison because he was accused of being the instigator of the attack on Sigfrido Ranucci , which took place last October in Pomezia near Rome.
The precautionary measure was issued by the Rome investigating judge as part of the investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office—coordinated by Prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi—which also alleges mafia-style methods.
The arrest was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit.
The Rome investigating judge has issued an arrest warrant, concurrently with the precautionary measure against Valter Lavitola, also for Cameroonian citizen Gomes Clesio Tavares, accused by Rome prosecutors of participating in the plot to attack the journalist. He is currently a fugitive and is believed to be in Africa. According to the prosecution, Gomes was the intermediary between Lavitola and the gang—composed of four people—that carried out the bombing on October 16 of last year in Pomezia, a town near Rome.
