A two-year-old boy was transferred by helicopter yesterday evening from the Ospedale Maggiore in Modica to the pediatric resuscitation department of the Policlinico in Messina due to a serious burn to his oral cavity caused by an electric shock.
According to an initial reconstruction, the child put the cord of an electrical appliance in his mouth and gnawed it, thus causing the electric shock that severely burned him.
His condition immediately appeared serious, hence the activation of the helicopter rescue to take him from Modica, where he was initially hospitalized, to the pediatric resuscitation department of the Messina hospital.
The prognosis is reserved. Despite the lesions to the oral cavity caused by the electric shock, no neurological damage has been found, and the doctors say they are confident even if his conditions remain under close observation. The little patient is intubated as a precaution to protect the airways.
