There's no letup in the number of accidents at work in Italy: construction sites are turning into death traps, lives lost while on the job. Two workers died and another was injured in two separate accidents this morning, Monday, September 8th, in Riposto (Catania) and Turin. Both cases involved falls from heights during work at height.

In Riposto, in the province of Catania, a worker in his 40s lost his life after falling from scaffolding while expanding some warehouses of a construction window and door company. The man died instantly. Emergency medical services, Carabinieri from the local station, inspectors from SPRESAL (Workplace Prevention and Safety Service), and soldiers from the Labor Inspectorate Unit (NIL) responded to the scene.

Almost simultaneously, another dramatic accident occurred in Turin, on Via Genova : a 69-year-old worker of Egyptian origin fell from a height of approximately twelve meters while riding in a crane basket. Investigations are also underway to determine the cause of the accident.

A second worker was injured in the tragedy. Emergency responders, law enforcement, and Spresal inspectors arrived at the scene.

Via Genova, the scene of today's accident, is sadly known for another tragedy : on December 19, 2021, three assemblers—Filippo Falotico, 20, Roberto Peretto, 52, and Marco Pozzetti, 54—died after falling 40 meters while assembling a building tower with a crane.
