Trento: 14-year-old falls during mountain hike; rescue efforts are unsuccessful.

A 14-year-old girl died during a hike in the Latemar mountain range, on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino.

According to initial reports, the foreign tourist was walking along a trail near the Torre di Pisa refuge when she slipped and fell about fifty meters. The Aiut Alpin Dolomites air rescue team and members of the Moena mountain rescue team arrived on the scene, but there was nothing more that could be done for the fourteen-year-old. Her body was recovered by helicopter using a winch.
