Trenitalia has suffered a hacker attack that "resulted in unauthorized access to some personal data related to travel tickets." The company itself announced this in an email to its customers, assuring that "no account login details, personal credentials, or payment information (such as card number, expiration date, or security code) were affected."

The data of millions of customers has been breached. The information accessed unauthorized, the email specifies, may include personal details, contact information (email addresses and phone numbers), ticket and loyalty card information, and identity document details.

"As soon as we detected the event, we immediately took all necessary measures to stop the anomaly, secure the systems, and further strengthen controls, thus reducing the risk of similar situations recurring," Trenitalia added.

The incident was reported to the Italian Data Protection Authority and the National Agency for Cybersecurity and was the subject of a complaint to the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Rome.

The attack occurred in October 2025. Trenitalia immediately activated all security measures, and "only after completing technical checks was it possible to proceed with the individual communications required by current legislation," Trenitalia explained.

The incident, the company reports, involved "exclusively certain data associated with travel tickets," Trenitalia adds, specifying that "payment data, account login credentials, or credit or debit card information (card number, expiration date, and security code) were not compromised."

For this reason, Trenitalia asks you to be wary of fraudulent communications or deceptive contact attempts.

The opposition, from Italia Viva to the Democratic Party, from Avs to the Five Star Movement, is calling on Minister Matteo Salvini to report on the data breach of millions of customers.
