February is a month of passion, with around twenty strikes called in the transportation sector. They begin today, with protests in the local rail sector, but the dates to be marked in red across Italy are Monday the 16th, for a 24-hour air travel stoppage, and Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th for a daylong nationwide protest that will shut down trains.
Today, Orsa Ferrovie announced a 23-hour strike for Trenord staff, while railway contractors for the Elior Itinere/Polaris division in the Lazio region will be on strike for four hours, following a protest called by Uilt-Uil/Ugl Ferrovieri. Also in the railway sector, Trenitalia staff from the Technical Directorate of Locomotive Construction Mechanical Workshops in Rimini will go on an eight-hour provincial strike on the 5th. On Friday the 6th, the port sector will be affected by a nationwide all-day strike called by USB Private Employment. Autostrade per l'Italia staff on the Milan branch will be on strike for eight hours per shift, as called by Uilt-Uil. On the same day, local protests also took place in public transport in some regions: Orsa Autoferro announced a 24-hour strike for Tua staff in the Abruzzo region; Filt-Cgil/Fit-Cisl/Uilt-Uil/Faisa-Cisal workers at the Tua production units in Lanciano (Chieti) and Teramo are striking for 24 hours. Amtab workers in Bari will also be on strike for four hours in a protest called by Uilt-Uil. The following Friday, the 13th, a 24-hour public transport strike will be held by employees of the Sasa company in Bolzano, called by Filt-Cgil/Ugl/Usb lavoro privato/Orsa trasporti, and by employees of Gtm in Termoli (Campobasso), who are members of Uilt-Uil. Staff at Arriva Udine, a branch of the independent trade union ASI, will also be on strike for nine hours.
On Monday the 16th, the situation will become more complicated for those flying: the work stoppages will affect air transport and will be nationwide and for 24 hours . The affected personnel are: ITA Airways (proclamation by Filt-Cgil/Fit-Cisl/Uilt-Uil/Ugl/Anpac/Anp), Alha Aeroporto di Milano Malpensa (Cub), Airport Handling at Milan Linate and Malpensa (Cub), and flight attendants at Vueling Airlines (Filt Cgil and Anpac). ITA Airways ground and flight staff will be on strike for four hours (USB private work).
Finally, at the end of the month, strikes will take place on the 27th and 28th : the machine and on-board staff of the Ferrovie dello Stato group will stop for 24 hours from 9pm on the 27th for a national assembly , while the operators of the Ferrovie Sud Est and Bari car services will protest for 4 hours due to the strike called by Filt-Cgil/Fit-Cisl/Uilt-Uil/Faisa-Cisal.
