Tragedy in Rovigo: newborn baby dies in hospital, mother ends up in prison
The woman couldn't give an explanation, the doctors wanted to see clearly: excessive shaking would have caused irreversible damage to the babyTragedy in Rovigo, where a three-month-old baby died in hospital and the Moroccan mother was arrested for the crime of abuse aggravated by death.
The affair, which dates back to the beginning of September, was announced today by the Public Prosecutor Manuela Fasolato .
The little boy, rushed to Padua hospital, died last week. The mother was unable to provide explanations as to the causes of death, but the doctors thought about it.
The report is clear: "brain and spinal cord trauma with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy" were highlighted on the child's body, serious injuries which lead to an insufficient blood flow to the brain and which are perfectly compatible with the syndrome of the "shaken child with abusive head trauma" .
In essence, excessive shaking would have caused irreversible damage to the baby , as often happens when the parent is unable to manage the newborn's crying fits.
Thus, following the report, the Prosecutor's Office requested and obtained precautionary custody in prison for the woman , carried out last 6 September by the Flying Squad of the Police Headquarters and motivated by serious indications of guilt.
The woman made use of the right not to answer in the interrogation before the investigating judge.
