The lifeless body of a newborn was found this morning in the heated crib of the church of San Giovanni Battista , in the Poggiofranco neighborhood of Bari . Whoever left him may not have closed the door of the room that houses the crib and this would not have triggered the alarm.

"I'm in Rome," explains Don Antonio Ruccia, the parish priest of the church, "but my cell phone connected to the crib hasn't rung ."

The first to intervene after the discovery of the little boy were the patrol officers and the scientific police of the Bari police headquarters who carried out the initial investigations, but the police officers of the flying squad are now investigating the case.

Investigators are examining footage from surveillance cameras in the area.

Professor Biagio Solarino from the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Policlinico of Bari is also on site. It is not excluded that an autopsy may be ordered on the newborn's body, one of the hypotheses is also that the baby was brought there already dead.
