"During these four days, I've felt this Palio so deeply because there was only one result to achieve. And I think it's the most important of my career."
These are the words of Giovanni Atzeni , known as " Tittia ," to reporters during the celebrations following his victory in Piazza del Campo wearing the colors of the Aquila. A historic victory for the Contrada, which hadn't won since 1992, and which brings the jockey, originally from Nurri, to his twelfth Carriera victory and within two points of Aceto's record.
"My relationship with L'Aquila goes back a long way," he said in front of the microphones. "For fifteen years, they have always waited for me and supported me." Tittia's thanks go "to the Contrada, to my family, to my parents. A hug to all of Sardinia and to Nurri, where they will surely be celebrating."
