The Bologna Prefecture has decided to assign a bodyguard to the mayor of the Emilian capital, Matteo Lepore, following threats that surfaced on social media in recent days following Fakir's death. According to newspaper reports, the protection is expected to be activated in the coming days.

“We want you like Fakir,” “We hope someone puts a bullet in your head,” are some of the very serious threats directed at the mayor of Bologna, who had called the city to rally for a demonstration following the death of Abderrahim Fakir during the tense stages of a police arrest.

The mayor also filed a complaint with the police regarding those threats. It has now been decided that an escort will be deployed, the details of which will be discussed at the meeting of the Committee for Public Order and Security.

Following the center-right's attacks, Lepore received bipartisan solidarity following the threats he received. Among the various expressions of solidarity was that of the Fakir family, who, through their lawyer Fabio Anselmo, expressed their "deepest sympathy" for the insults and "cowardly" threats they had endured. "You can't wish Fakir's end upon anyone."
