Pope Leo XIV returned to the Vatican. Shortly before 4:00 PM, he passed through the Porta del Perugino to return "home," his apartment in the Apostolic Palace, from which he had left on Tuesday to be admitted to the Gemelli Polyclinic.

The Pope appeared smiling and in apparently good shape. Wearing a white robe and skullcap in perfect order, Leo, who was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, even raised his right arm, the one with the operated lung, in greeting to the crowd. He then spent a few moments with a young Ukrainian patient. He did not appear fatigued.

President Sergio Mattarella renewed to Pope Leo "on behalf of all of Italy and myself, my warmest wishes for a peaceful convalescence and his speedy and complete recovery."

Under these circumstances, Mattarella wrote, "I join once again in the widespread expressions of closeness and affection that have been addressed to You by ordinary citizens and political leaders from numerous countries. Expressions of great solidarity towards Your Holiness and widespread expressions of good wishes for Your health have united multitudes of people from every corner of the world, and certainly, with particular sensitivity, all Catholic communities who, grateful for the care of the medical staff assisting You, also find reassurance in the Augustinian exhortation to always maintain faith, even in the healing of illnesses, in overcoming difficulties."
