The Church officially has seven new saints.
Pope Leo XIV made them official and proclaimed them by pronouncing the canonical formula: "We inscribe them in the roll of saints, establishing that they are to be devoutly honored throughout the Church."
Among them were three Italians: Bartolo Longo (founder and benefactor of the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary of Pompeii), Sister Maria Troncatti (missionary among the Indians in Ecuador) and Sister Vincenza Maria Poloni (founder of the Sisters of Mercy).
Then the first saint of Papua New Guinea: Peter To Rot.
Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan , Armenian Catholic archbishop and martyr of the 1915 genocide, is also a saint.
Finally, the first two saints of Venezuela: José Gregorio Hernandez and Maria del Monte Carmelo Rendiles Martínez.
