The former employee of the Bisceglie (Barletta-Andria-Trani) branch of Intesa Sanpaolo, who was fired in August for having spied on the current accounts of 3,572 clients of the institute, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni , is under investigation for unauthorized access to computer systems and attempted procurement of information concerning state security.

Yesterday, judicial police officers commissioned by the Bari Public Prosecutor's Office searched the former employee's home and seized smartphones, tablets, hard disks and various computer devices that will be subjected to forensic tests.

The investigations - underlines a note from the Attorney of Bari, Roberto Rossi - began following the complaint-report by a current account holder of the Intesa Sanpaolo group.

The investigators' activity ascertained and documented that, in the period between February 21, 2022 and April 24, 2024, the former employee had made a total of 6,637 abusive accesses to the data of 3,572 customers of 679 branches of the Intesa Sanpaolo banking group .

Specifically, the former employee had proceeded to interrogate the data of numerous figures from the world of politics, entertainment and sports. Among these, in addition to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, also her family members (her sister Arianna, her ex-partner Andrea Giambruno), the ministers Guido Crosetto, Raffaele Fitto and Daniela Santanché and the governors Michele Emiliano and Luca Zaia.

The man has so far limited himself to declaring: "I'm just a control freak."
