Matteo Salvini has resigned as League secretary, a formal but necessary step ahead of the extraordinary congress on October 24 and 25 in Milan.

The Deputy Prime Minister, after the Federal Council meeting in Via Bellerio, also announced an update to the symbol and the creation of a political secretariat "to share honors and burdens."

Salvini had called for the extraordinary congress from the stage in Pontida, the deputy prime minister's move to definitively put an end to the tensions that have shaken the Northern League's summer . With the political secretariat, which is yet to be defined, Salvini is responding to calls for greater collegiality in decision-making. The logo change, however, could involve removing the reference to "Salvini Prime Minister," also in light of the new electoral law that requires the name of the candidate for Prime Minister to be indicated. However, it is explained, "we will discuss both issues at the congress," where the deputy prime minister is expected to face no challengers.
