A holiday in the capital that has turned into a nightmare: victim of a 50-year-old Sardinian tourist , attacked by a homeless Ethiopian citizen with kicks and punches.

It happened yesterday morning in the central Piazza Venezia , where the woman was in the company of a group of friends.

A morning apparently like so many between smiles, souvenir photos and walks, then the drama, just before 12.

The attacker, a 26-year-old with a precedent for sexual assault , attacked the woman violently: at first he hit her in the face with a fist, then he also kicked her.

Fortunately, there was a female agent of the Local Police of Rome on the spot: the policewoman did not think for a moment and immediately intervened when she saw the tourist with a bloody face. He then tried to stand between the man and the victim and tried to block those violent blows that the Ethiopian, however, continued to deliver. The policewoman was also injured while trying to save the victim. After his anger was relieved, the Ethiopian then tried to flee, but was blocked by the brigade of the Gssu Local Police patrol.

The 26-year-old was arrested for injuries, assault and resistance to a public official . On the spot an ambulance of 118 which rescued the two women and transported them to the emergency room of the San Giovanni hospital. For both, no fractures or serious injuries, but the prognosis is 15 days . Shocked the tourist with her face swollen from the blows received.

Investigations are open to reconstruct what could be behind such a violent, sudden and unnecessary attack: the police do not rule out that the Ethiopian may suffer from mental problems.
