"After more than 40 years of service, now close to the maximum limit provided by law, the time has come for retirement. It is a decision that I have been making for some time and that everyone who is particularly close to me was aware of."

This was announced by the former prosecutor of Rome and deputy of the DNA, Michele Prestipino, who in recent days has been registered in the register of suspects for revealing official secrets in an investigation by the Caltanissetta prosecutors.

"I have always privileged facts over words and therefore, also for consistency with this, I would just like to limit myself, with this farewell of mine, to heartily thanking all those with whom, in these long years, I have had the honor of collaborating in carrying out a job that has never been for me a simple fulfillment of a duty, but always something more", he adds.

Announcing his decision to leave the toga, Prestipino expresses his gratitude "first of all, to the many, many colleagues, who in these days, together with many others, have made me feel their esteem and affection. And then also to the representatives of the institutions, to the lawyers, to the members of the police force and to the administrative collaborators. A heartfelt thanks aside, then, I feel I must dedicate to those who for many have acted as my personal escort service".

Referring to the investigation, in which the former head of the Rome prosecutors is assisted by the lawyer Cesare Placanica, he explains that he does not want to "add anything both because it had very little importance in my decision, and because I am absolutely calm and convinced that the matter will be, I hope soon, clarified, establishing the linearity of my behavior, in line, moreover, with what I have maintained throughout my life".
