The NAS and the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office continue to interview informed individuals as part of the investigation into manslaughter in the death of little Domenico Caliendo , who died in the Monaldi hospital in the Campania capital after a transplant on a damaged heart.
Investigators have also shed new light on the Bolzano hospital where Monaldi's team went to remove the heart that was to be transplanted into little Domenico. Questions remain about the possibility — revealed during a television broadcast by anonymous witnesses —that poor-quality, or even contaminated, water may have been used to make the ice at the hospital. According to what has emerged so far, dry ice, which can reach temperatures of -80 degrees Celsius, was used to preserve the heart removed in Bolzano for transport to Naples (in an old-fashioned refrigerated container, no longer in compliance with guidelines).
As far as we know , all the versions of the events given so far by those who were in the operating room on December 23, 2025, the day of the heart removal in Bolzano and the transplant in Naples, are consistent .
