The Christmas exodus has begun, with over 3.5 million cars on the road until Monday, December 22nd . This is according to ANAS estimates, which predicts nationwide traffic growth of approximately 11% today, 5% on Sunday, December 21st, and 6% on Monday, December 22nd, compared to recent weeks.

It is estimated that over 10.5 million transits will be recorded on Friday 19th, approximately 8.5 million on Saturday 20th December, approximately 8 million on Sunday 21st December and over 9 million on Monday 22nd December.

The biggest increases are expected in Sardinia and Sicily, with traffic expected to reach +13%.

As always, a reduction in vehicle traffic is expected between Christmas and Boxing Day (-40%), New Year's Eve (-35%) and Epiphany (-30%).

Regarding the counter-exodus, returns will be spread over several days, with a greater concentration on the weekends following Boxing Day and New Year's Day. On Sunday, December 21st, Thursday, December 25th, and Friday, December 26th, heavy vehicles will be suspended from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
