The Council of Ministers has given the green light to the decree extending the state of emergency for Covid in Italy until 31 March.
The "special" regime created to tackle the pandemic and introduced in January 2020 by the Conte government will therefore go beyond 24 months, the maximum duration of a state of emergency provided for by law (or twelve extendable for another twelve).
There will be no obligation to wear a mask outdoors in the white area, Draghi rejected the pressing of those who, within the executive, asked for it.
The Draghi government decree, passed in light of the data coming from abroad on the Omicron variant and of the rapidly growing number of infections in our country as well, consists of eleven articles and extends all the measures related to the state of emergency.
Thanks to the extension, the government will be able to continue to resort to the Dpcm (which must not receive the approval of the Parliament) and the commissioner structure and the technical-scientific committee remain standing.
Parental leave has also been extended to 50% for parents with children in quarantine due to Covid and the possibility of smart working for fragile workers.
The extension of the state of emergency must pass through the vote of the Chamber, but Enrico Letta and Giuseppe Conte have already said they are in favor, and Salvini himself was a possibility.
Giorgia Meloni is on the contrary: “If it lasts more than two years it is a logical and linguistic contradiction, the government today should be able to fight the pandemic by restoring rights. This creates a problem for democracy, the only ones left to defend the Constitution are the Brothers of Italy ”.
THE MINISTER'S ORDER - News for arrivals from abroad. The Minister of Health has signed a new ordinance which provides for the obligation of negative tests on departure for all those arriving from European countries. The unvaccinated, in addition to presenting the negative test, will have to observe 5 days of quarantine. For the vaccinated, the test, even antigenic, is sufficient. The ordinance is valid from December 16th to January 31st.
