There are those who forbid the singing of “Bella ciao” and those who even forbid the celebrations for April 25, the day on which the 80th anniversary of the Liberation falls.
Some have taken the government's call for "sobriety" too literally because of the five-day national mourning following the death of Pope Francis.
Two municipalities in the Vallecamonica in Brescia, both centre-right led, have completely cancelled them: Ono San Pietro and Cividate Camuno, in the latter the mayor Alessandro Francesetti (FdI) has decided to organise them for Saturday 26 April and has cancelled the appointment anyway.
In Genazzano (Rome), the mayor Alessandro Cefaro – civic list – banned the procession in the name of “sobriety”.
Giovanni Ghilardi, the centre-right mayor of Cinisello Balsamo (Milan) has cancelled the rallies, banned flags and the intervention of partisan associations.
Bans also in Domodossola, symbol of the Resistance. Celebrations modified "in respect of national mourning", procession, parade and presence of the musical group cancelled.
Bans also in Leno (Brescia), led by the Democratic Party, where only the morning celebrations remain, "halved" and in a minor tone.
But the most curious measure comes from Romano di Lombardia, in the Bergamo area, where the “Bella ciao” has been banned. The Corriere della sera reports it, explaining that a note signed by the president of the city council, the Northern League’s Paolo Patelli, prescribes not to perform “musical pieces, hymns and songs with the exception of Silenzio and Attenti” in the first stages of the parade.
And the ANPI explains, «it will be possible to prevent the band from playing Bella ciao, but not the citizens from singing it».
