"I lived every day with bated breath , trying to stay strong even when my strength seemed to be gone. These months have been a very difficult test, something that deeply affects a mother ." This is how Elisabetta Ligabò, the mother of Alberto Stasi, spoke to Corriere della Sera. Stasi is the 41-year-old man who was released from prison last Saturday on probation after being sentenced to 16 years for the murder of Chiara Poggi.

"Seeing my son come out and finally being able to hug him again is a relief I can't put into words ," says Elisabetta Ligabò. "It's a moment I've been waiting for with all my heart. I hope that from here he can begin a new journey, one that's more peaceful, more just, and more humane. I sincerely thank everyone who has supported us silently, with respect and affection." Meanwhile, while awaiting legal developments, Stasi's mother asks "only to be able to protect this fragile moment for our family and allow us to find some peace."

Stasi has already said he won't return to Garlasco, at least not to live . And he'll have to comply with specific requirements: from staying in Lombardy to not spending the night away from home. If authorized, he can travel on vacation, but not abroad.

What his judicial fate will be, if any, other than a 16-year sentence for murder, is still too early to tell. But the opening of the new investigation in Pavia and the news leaked on social media and TV have contributed to shaping a narrative different from that of a cold-blooded killer.

Now Stasi is trying to get his life back on track, on a long journey of reintegration after the 11 years spent in Bollate.
