Vincenzo Lanni, 59, will be questioned tomorrow morning by investigating judge Rossana Mongiardo. He is charged with attempted murder aggravated by premeditation and illegal possession of a weapon . On Monday morning in Piazza Gae Aulenti, Milan, he stabbed Anna Laura Valsecchi, a Finlombarda manager, in the back. She was later rescued by doctors at Niguarda Hospital. According to investigators' reconstruction, Lanni struck with a single, swift blow using a knife he had purchased the previous week. Arrested approximately twelve hours after the attack, during questioning by prosecutor Cristina Ria and the Carabinieri, he stated that he had chosen "a place symbolic of economic power" and a "random" woman, whom he did not know, to attack what he believed to be "the context" responsible for his dismissal.
Judge Mongiardo will then have to decide on the request to validate the arrest and apply the precautionary prison measure . The man, who has psychiatric problems, attempted to kill two pensioners 10 years ago in the Bergamo area, where he lived and worked as a computer programmer. He also intended, as he himself stated, to attack a jogger who later escaped the worst. He was sentenced to eight years and three years of security in a protected facility.
Valsecchi was placed in the care of the Exodus community in the Varese area, where, after being deemed no longer a social threat, he remained free until last Thursday, when he was removed for misconduct. The Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating this case, and is also reconstructing the 2023 incident: while on probation, he was stopped by the Railway Police at the Varese station with a knife in his backpack. He was released and charged at large.
