A caver became trapped 120 meters underground in the "Grotta dei Cinghiali Volanti" (Flying Boar Cave) in the municipality of Garessio, in the Cuneo province . A complex operation by the Piedmont Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service has been underway since 5:00 PM today, after the alarm was raised in the late afternoon.
Specialized teams from the Piedmont, Liguria, and Lombardy delegations of the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps were mobilized to the scene. The medical commission and dislodging technicians, professionals specialized in interventions in complex underground environments, were also activated. The first rescue team reached the accident site this afternoon to assess the injured man's condition and determine the safest recovery methods . The operations are particularly delicate due to the depth and characteristics of the cavity. No further information has been released at this time regarding the condition of the caver involved.
Approximately forty Alpine and Speleological Rescue workers from various regions of Italy then arrived on site, in case the speleologist was unable to help him escape from the cave and needed to be transported on a stretcher.
