Simona Cinà, the young volleyball player from Capaci who was found dead on Saturday in the swimming pool of a villa in Bagheria (Palermo) where she was celebrating the graduation of two friends, is believed to have drowned .
These are the initial results of the autopsy, which concluded this morning and revealed no heart problems. The exact time of death has not been determined, however .
The test would have ruled out a heart attack or silent congenital pathologies .
The girl apparently drowned, as water was found in her lungs. It's unclear, however, whether she fell under the water and drowned after feeling unwell from natural causes, or whether it was caused by involuntary drug or alcohol consumption . To determine this, we'll have to wait for the results of toxicology tests.
They're also considering whether the girl slipped , according to Simona's family's lawyer: "Besides the natural or drug-induced illness, there's also a third possibility: that Simona slipped near the pool, hit her head, and lost consciousness. The autopsy revealed a small mark under the nape of her neck. The doctors have ruled out this possibility, but I understand there's a small head trauma," said lawyer Gabriele Giambrone.
