Word of the Undersecretary of Health Pierpaolo Sileri, interviewed in the Rai 1 program “Domenica in”.
Sileri called the vaccination campaign in Italy a success, because “we have achieved community protection without introducing the obligation”.
As for the third dose, it is likely that citizens under 40 years of age will also have to do it later.
"It is mandatory for health personnel, but the advice is to do it all", remarked the undersecretary, recalling that from 1 December the third doses will also be open to over 40s.
"The ability to resist if you encounter the virus decreases over time," said Sileri. "We know that after six months you are still protected, but the possibility of catching the disease increases. 40 years should have the third dose of the vaccine ".
On children: "If and when it is approved by Ema, the vaccine will be an additional weapon also to protect the little ones". The undersecretary, defining the path of obligation as “not viable”, specified, for the no vax: “The vaccine is absolutely not experimental, but we are still learning, month after month, how the virus behaves. It is a mutating virus and we do not know how long immunity will last ”.
