The tragedy occurred in Poirino, in the Turin area, the victim was Martina Gillio . The young woman, originally from Chieri and resident in Poirino, collapsed while training in the weight room . The staff of the facility intervened immediately, performing resuscitation maneuvers and using the defibrillator provided, but the girl's conditions immediately appeared critical.

Martina, an economics student in Turin, had been admitted to intensive care and intubated, but died after 24 hours at the Molinette hospital in Turin.
