Killed and then set on fire in the Salerno area. The victim is Luigi "Luca" Esposito, 53, an employee of the regional environmental agency (ARPAC) in Avellino. He is best known as a sports journalist : he collaborated with the daily newspaper La Città di Salerno, the TV station Ottochannel, and ran the football news website Tuttosalernitana.com.

Esposito, born Luigi, had always called himself Luca, and so he signed his articles and television reports. A biology graduate with a second degree in literature, he had always been passionate about sports. He was reportedly shot dead (the Carabinieri recovered some shell casings) and then set on fire in the bushes.

The fire necessitated the intervention of firefighters, who, during the extinguishing process, found the body, so ravaged by the flames that it was initially impossible to determine whether it was a man or a woman. Then the investigation turned around with the discovery of Esposito's car, and checks made it possible to determine how the man had disappeared.

The Salerno prosecutor's office, headed by Raffaele Cantone, is investigating the case.
