A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder for driving into and killing a man he believed to be a romantic rival.

It happened in Somma Lombardo, in the province of Varese, on the night between Saturday and Sunday. The victim, a 36-year-old man, had simply stopped to give directions to the 43-year-old's ex, a 39-year-old woman who had agreed to meet him again.

The woman, who was on a motorcycle, couldn't reach the meeting point, and the 36-year-old man, riding a scooter, stopped to help her. The 43-year-old, seeing them together, struck the man, killing him instantly.
