Severe weather in Liguria: containers fall at the port of Genoa, a seawall collapses in Pegli

Damage, disruption and fear in Genoa where the heavy rains of the last few hours were joined in the early afternoon by a tornado that caused several containers to fall in the port area .

The severe weather also caused the collapse of a retaining wall in a garden on the hills above Pegli . The debris swept away several cars parked on the road. Firefighters, Civil Protection officers from the Municipality of Genoa, and municipal police were on site. Electricity and gas supplies were interrupted.

Liguria is the only region under yellow alert today. Orange alert is expected tomorrow.
