A "dry" filing of five "counter-consultations" and no statement from Andrea Sempio . This is the defense line chosen by the sole suspect in the Garlasco crime, for which the Pavia Prosecutor's Office is looming.

His lawyers, Liborio Cataliotti and Angela Taccia, will present the findings of the work carried out in recent days by their team of experts between Thursday and Friday. Their aim is to demolish not only the detailed investigations, detailed in reports attached to the case file for the new closure of the investigation, but also the entire prosecution case. However, they "rule out" the possibility that the 38-year-old, far from submitting for questioning, will appear before the prosecutors by October 18th, the expiration of the time limit established by the criminal code, even to make a voluntary statement.

"We feel strong about everything," Cataliotti said yesterday when announcing further expert opinions, including those on fingerprint 33 and the shoe with the polka-dot sole, to be delivered to the prosecutors who have offered a new reconstruction of the murder committed 19 years ago and for which Chiara's then-boyfriend, Alberto Stasi, is currently serving a 16-year sentence.

The most important aspect concerns the killer's footprint, the famous polka-dot print from a Frau shoe, which is one of the most important traces left at the crime scene . "That footprint," explained lawyer Angela Taccia, "is smaller than Andrea Sempio's . If necessary, we are ready to make some shoe models available to the Prosecutor's Office." The big news, Taccia explained, is that "our investigations could also benefit Stasi." According to Sempio's defense consultants, in fact, the killer's footprint is not only incompatible with the size 44 worn by Sempio, but not even with the size 42 worn by Stasi, as established in the first investigation. The footprint would be attributable to a foot that wears a size 39-40 , therefore also smaller than that of Alberto Stasi. "If Andrea Sempio's footprint is incompatible with that of the killer, it is clear that Andrea Sempio is not the killer. But we don't put ourselves in the position of saying 'let's save our client and blame someone else,'" Taccia said.

The battle is also ongoing over imprint 33, the palm-sized handprint left on the stairwell wall, which the Prosecutor's Office has attributed to Sempio . According to investigators and the Carabinieri's reconstruction at the time, this is the hand of the killer who, after killing Chiara, turned back to face the victim one last time while climbing the cellar stairs, leaning against the wall to avoid falling. Sempio's defense maintains that the imprint cannot be attributed to anyone and that it is not certain that it is bloody .

Today, Angela Taccia went to the Pavia prosecutor's office to listen to some of her client's wiretaps. Also present was Giuseppe Colli, one of Alberto Stasi's first defenders immediately after the crime. Without specifying the reason for his visit, the lawyer stated, referring to Stasi: "Let's get this guy out."
