Pavia prosecutors also accused Andrea Sempio of wiretapping, and he chose to exercise his right to remain silent during questioning today . These previously unpublished conversations were also allegedly leaked to Marco Poggi.

In particular , an audio in which Sempio, alone in the car, talks about Chiara . It is April 14, 2025, and the new investigation by Prosecutor Napoleone has just begun: Sempio says he saw intimate videos of her and Alberto, that he called her before the crime to try to approach her, and that she replied: 'I don't want to talk to you,' and then hung up .

Hence the charge of voluntary homicide aggravated by cruelty and abject motives, and the conviction of the Prosecutor that the crime was based on a sexual approach rejected by the victim .

Seeing the intimate videos on the Poggi family computer, which Sempio frequently used, a crush apparently developed. This led to an attempted rapture, taking advantage of Marco and his parents' absence and the fact that Chiara was alone at home. But the girl's reaction apparently triggered a murderous rage in what the Prosecutor's Office calls a "domino effect."

And in this context , the three calls made to the Poggi home in the days immediately preceding the crime, despite knowing Marco wasn't there , take on a different light. These calls have always raised eyebrows. "I called by mistake. I wanted to speak to Marco, but I forgot he was in the mountains," he said, adding that he had seen Marco the very night before his departure. "I had no reason to contact Chiara. I'd never met her and only knew her by sight." However, Tg1 claims, in the wiretaps obtained by the Prosecutor's Office, Sempio also mentions those calls, suggesting that the intent was precisely to approach Chiara, who apparently rejected him by hanging up.

The interrogation lasted a long time, even though Sempio exercised his right to remain silent, because the prosecutors listed the charges against him. From what we understand, these are those that have gradually emerged during the investigation: the DNA on Chiara Poggi's fingernails, the now-famous fingerprint 33 on the wall of the stairs leading to the cellar, the case of the false alibi of the receipt, and the expert reports , that of pathologist Cristina Cattaneo, who shifted the time of death, thus exonerating Stasi, and that of the Carabinieri's RACIS (Italian National Anti-Mafia Investigations Unit) on the 38-year-old's psychological profile.

And there are others, new ones, particularly these wiretaps. The previous investigation against Sempio, closed in 2017, already included a series of wiretaps, captured in the clerk's car. These recordings, among other things, according to the new investigation in Pavia, were partly transcribed incorrectly during the investigation coordinated by then-prosecutor Mario Venditti (under investigation in Brescia for corruption in judicial documents along with Sempio's father). According to reports, in addition to these audio recordings that have surfaced over time, including recently, investigators have today unveiled new , completely unpublished wiretaps . At the end of the interrogation, investigators also noted that the investigation, as of now, is not yet closed.

The interception

The sentences are in some parts disjointed and seem to involve other people, but it is certain that they are talking about the phone calls to the Poggi house and the intimate videos.

«Of the three calls – Sempio said, speaking to himself and sometimes imitating a female voice – she said 'I don't want to talk to you' (...) it was like I said 'can we meet up?' (...) and she hung up on me (...) she put the phone down... Ah, there you go, you're acting tough, but I've never seen it that way, the interest wasn't mutual, damn it. She says 'I can't find the video anymore' (...) I brought the video (...) he knows it too... Because I saw... from his cell phone... Because Chiara didn't... with that video and I have it in my pen, that's fine, damn it».

The defense

"I'll say right away that my client believes he'll be able to explain those interceptions, and not only that , obviously, once he's listened to them, contextualized them, and recalled them from his memory." This is what Andrea Sempio's lawyer, Liborio Cataliotti, said about the interception on the Canale5 program 'Dentro la Notizia'.

The defense said Sempio was referring to some elements of the case reported by television broadcasts or podcasts .

"I don't know how many of these wiretaps there are," Cataliotti added, saying that the investigation report was quite lengthy. The interrogation lasted 2 hours and 40 minutes, not including the purely bureaucratic formalities that took up a lot of time. "We passively listened to this narrative, which will be condensed into a written document that will be given to us. We will obviously focus our attention on it to respond, where possible immediately. Where this isn't possible due to the lack of audio recordings, we will do so later. I didn't hear the wiretap of this soliloquy; I only saw a transcribed portion, peppered with 'incomprehensible' words. We will listen to it, comment on it, contextualize it , and see if he was commenting on someone else's story, if he was actually talking to himself or if he was speaking to someone else. We'll see in due course. To date, we've seen a partial representation that the client says he can explain."

Poggi's interrogation

Before moving on to Sempio, the prosecutors interviewed Marco Poggi: the questioning of Chiara's brother, a friend of the suspect, lasted about two hours.

The prosecutors also made him listen to that audio and underlined that they were in possession of "robust" evidence against Sempio .

They also asked him about that intimate video of Chiara and Alberto Stasi, which he had already mentioned in an interrogation in 2007. Whether it was possible that Sempio, who used the Poggi home computer, had seen it. "I have never seen videos of my sister with Andrea Sempio," Marco replied succinctly .

Marco Poggi reportedly said he didn't believe his friend was guilty , and also disputed the prosecution's portrayal, saying he had read the transcripts of the DNA preliminary investigation. In her expert report, geneticist Denise Albani estimated the probability of a partial trace on Chiara Poggi's nails, ranging from "moderately strong" to "strong and moderate," compatible with Sempio's paternal lineage, but "insufficient to identify a single individual." Furthermore, based on current knowledge, it is unknown whether those traces were found "under or above" the nails, and how they were deposited.

"Having never had anything to hide, Marco Poggi also answered all the questions put to him on this occasion . He also appreciated the care with which the Prosecutor ensured he was shielded from the inevitable attention of journalists present in Pavia," said Francesco Compagna, lawyer for Chiara Poggi's brother, in a statement.
