Pavia prosecutors also reportedly accused Andrea Sempio of wiretapping, and he chose to exercise his right to remain silent during questioning today . These conversations, apparently unpublished, were also allegedly leaked to Marco Poggi.

In particular—we're talking about the old investigation into the 38-year-old, which was closed in October 2017— an audio recording of Sempio, alone in his car, talking about Chiara . He says he called her before the crime, that he tried to approach her, and that she replied, "I don't want to talk to you," before hanging up .

Hence the charge of voluntary manslaughter aggravated by cruelty and despicable motives, and the Prosecutor's Office's conviction that the crime was based on a sexual advance rejected by the victim . But why would Sempio have spoken alone in the car about that phone call ten years earlier? Could he have prepared a version of events to shoulder all the blame and "cover" for someone in case he was framed? These are all points that need to be clarified, which is why the Pavia Prosecutor's Office's investigation is not yet complete.

The interrogation lasted a long time, even though Sempio exercised his right to remain silent, because the prosecutors listed the charges against him. From what we understand, these are those that have gradually emerged during the investigation: the DNA on Chiara Poggi's fingernails, the now-infamous fingerprint 33 on the wall of the stairs leading to the cellar, the case of the alleged false alibi of the receipt, and the expert reports , that of pathologist Cristina Cattaneo, who shifted the time of death, thus exonerating Stasi, and that of the Carabinieri's RACIS (Italian National Anti-Mafia Investigations Unit) on the 38-year-old's psychological profile.

And there are others, new ones, particularly these wiretaps. The previous investigation against Sempio, closed in 2017, already included a series of wiretaps, captured in the clerk's car. These recordings, among other things, according to the new Pavia investigation, had been partially transcribed incorrectly during the investigation coordinated by then-prosecutor Mario Venditti (under investigation in Brescia for corruption in judicial documents along with Sempio's father). According to reports, in addition to these audio recordings that have surfaced over time, including recently, investigators have today submitted the previously unreleased wiretaps . At the end of the interrogation, investigators also noted that the investigation, as of now, is not yet closed. This is why Andrea Sempio remained at the Prosecutor's Office for four hours, but for lawyer Angela Taccia, "there is essentially nothing new, everything is completely explainable, we are calm and clear-headed."

Poggi's interrogation

Before moving on to Sempio, the prosecutors interviewed Marco Poggi: the questioning of Chiara's brother, a friend of the suspect, lasted about two hours.

The prosecutors also allegedly made him listen to some audio recordings that are part of the investigation . According to press reports, the investigators emphasized that they have "robust" evidence against Sempio .

They also asked him about the intimate video of Chiara and Alberto Stasi that he had mentioned during an interrogation in 2007. Whether it was possible that Sempio, who used the Poggi home computer, had seen it. "I have never seen videos of my sister with Andrea Sempio," Marco replied succinctly .

This video takes on particular importance in light of the new charges brought by the Prosecutor's Office and the alleged motive, namely a sexual approach rejected by the victim.

Marco Poggi reportedly said he didn't believe his friend was guilty , and also disputed the prosecution's portrayal, saying he had read the transcripts of the DNA preliminary investigation. In her expert report, geneticist Denise Albani estimated the probability of a partial trace on Chiara Poggi's nails, ranging from "moderately strong" to "strong and moderate," compatible with Sempio's paternal lineage, but "insufficient to identify a single individual." Furthermore, based on current knowledge, it is unknown whether those traces were found "under or above" the nails, and how they were deposited.

Andrea Sempio, however, remained at the Prosecutor's Office for four hours: he exercised his right to remain silent , as his lawyers Angela Taccia and Liborio Cataliotti had anticipated. The suspect will be available for questioning only after the investigation has been concluded and all documents have been disclosed, and following a personality assessment requested by his lawyers.
