Italian authorities have assigned Porto Empedocle as the disembarkation port for the Sea Watch vessel, which yesterday rescued 44 migrants from the abandoned Didon platform, located between Libya and Tunisia.
"Porto Empedocle is too far away for the remaining fuel," says the NGO. "We are asking the refugees, exhausted from spending five days on an abandoned oil rig, to disembark in Lampedusa ."
The migrants had taken refuge on the structure to escape the storm and are now aboard Aurora, a Sea-Watch fast vessel.
